Leo Pickard is a transgender multidisciplinary artist from Texas whose practice revolves around the 4D experience of filmmaking and animation. He became charmed initially with the narrative influence animation can play in young people's lives and queer self-discovery, having grown up watching cartoons on cable tv. Now his interest lies in the ever-changing nature of the medium itself, a meditative process of transition, one which parallels his own journey with queer identity. In his work, he utilizes material processes of animation to reflect themes of the changing and decaying physical body, folklore, and queer post-human consciousness. Leo's films about queer adolescence have been screened both domestically and internationally, and were most recently at this human world in Vienna, Austria, and selected for Best Film at Butte Film Fest in Chico, CA. Besides his filmmaking practice, Leo enjoys worldbuilding by illustrating characters and settings for them to exist in.
